Probably the Last Post for the Decade

Has it been ten years already? 2000-2009. We are the generation of the 2000's.

I had just been a grade 2/3 student in the year 2000. I was only 7/8 years old. How far has that been? How much has changed? With me and the things around me? Friendster was not yet 'uso' that time! Or has it been? :-/

How much scientific discovery has been made these past 10 years? I remember that the single-core desktops are where the demands pointed. Now, we have quad-cores and laptops in a phone! If juxtaposed the two, you would not notice the phone anymore due to the enormousness of the desktop. In Astronomy, where are right now? Hotels in space!! Worth what? Billions of Billions (and yes, BILLIONS) of DOLLARS; not just peso!

As for me, how much has changed? What has changed and what has remained? What was my height then? 4" something? I was then always in front of the line. Now what? Last line I went to, I was at the back.
I only then knew of pooping in my pants and some stuff. Now, it came to my knowledge how much I did not know about the world; how ignorant I am back then and right now.

How much of our politics has changed? I DO NOT KNOW. I do not even know then that there is such thing as POLITICS. As far as I know, now, people are shedding blood. I cannot help but think of the eruption of Mayon Volcano. Has the archipelago himself (yes, not it) got mad to us? Political-related Killings. Uncontented-with-power President. Hopeless Elections.

How do you go from point A to point B? Form a straight line. But how? With a bridge? Road perhaps? or using a Boat?  Made of what? Resources? Materials? Workers? Crew? It really seems difficult. Why cannot we have instructions to get to point A to B. Damn it.

Putting all these things at the back, I am still looking forward for the next decade. 2010. God, what will lie before us and how will we deal with what is behind us. Life is as its full speed. I cannot afford to be left behind. My sister graduating in less than 2 years. Soon, I am next. I can still remember the first days of my and my sister's schooling. She was crying then; she won't let go of my father, who was carrying me back then. As for me, I went to school one day ahead. Mommy said that back then, I was so excited to go to school that they had to make a fake ID for me. Now, she is graduating, at the last stages of school. Planning to be a doctor, she embarks on a journey of her own. I'm also embarking of my journey of my own. I want to do these. I want to take these. Sometimes, I get scared of my own plans. (My plan is another blog)

Why can't we just have a damn instructions to life? How to live? How to make money? How to be successful? If it is just easy as dropping out of school and making things, like what Bill Gates did, then, I would gladly do it.

JUST MAYBE, this is why life is INTERESTING. Worth LIVING. An ADVENTURE journey to savor. AND I WANT ADVENTURE. If you have family and friends, what is worth fearing about? Though, the goal is not as enjoying as expected. It may just be a boiling mud. And say,"What an AWESOME HIKE!"

Christmas day!

Merry Christmas, readers! Whether you have a God or an Allah --- or  Buddha.

How many men and women in the Philippines are celebrating their Christmas coldly tonight? The families of those massacred, of those who died in boat collision, of those victims of poor governing, of those victims of natural calamities (eg Mayon Volcano eruption and Typhoon Ondoy).

How many people who they wished they can help other people in one way or another, yet they cannot? Even get a new clothes for Christmas, they cannot.  How many people are those who are abundant, yet do not give? Rich government, poor people.

What will happen to the government after Christmas? Election. Pure dirty elections. Save us, Oh Lord.

Let us spread the Love! :) Merry Christmas. May Jesus enter and stay in our Hearts.

I want to be teacher.

Cool. I thought she was just that someone.

Here's the case: there is cheating in our LT. But what is being a student without any cheating, right? HAHA. Joke.

But, the instructor has been informed that THERE WAS cheating. It was proven by a reliable source of her, her sister. So a retest will be made for all! At first, of course, it was hard. Another Long test. Another two and half to three hours of test.

But what was good about it was the reason behind it. With all effort, she explains to us the reason behind the retest: to uphold Dignity and Integrity. Now that was something. You will be able to graduate with dignity and integrity and also pride. I know that it is not about the grades. But for the students, it may really be hard. She even showed us her graduation symbol and the cartolina-sized DIPLOMA.

I forgot some of her explanations. But all I knew, is that she said that corruption started with just cheating because it was not straighten early on. Now she was there to make that difference. A teacher. I want to be a teacher to uphold Dignity and Integrity to each.

I do not imply that the leaders we have now do not have Dignity and Integrity. I say that MOST of them don not have it. Madam, please just go to sleep, would you? Are you not satisfied?

If you cannot, go to some cheap school.

Article Here: http://www.biospectrumasia.com/content/111209IND11529.asp

The article says that South East Asia is the birthplace of Asia. But now, are we (Filipinos) still Asians?

Bagong Ikaw

Magandang pag-isipan: Kung ikaw ay nasa bahay lang? Ano ang iyong masasabi sa mga anak at apo mo kapag naglaon.

This is what is great about *I LIKE RANDOM* things. When you say farewell to one, you say Nice to meet you to another. A new experience is made. Sabi nga ng aming guro, "BAGONG IKAW: mula sa luma at bagong nabuong karanasan". That is what is goooood about adventure. You get to experience new thiings. NEW NEW.  New People. Yet, that is what is hard about New. It's newness. Too new that your comfort zone has been disturbed. bABBAd again. For me, it all boils down to it. You have to create your new self. NAAAH. Anyhoo.
Humanities Department has taught and has made me understood some MORE things. Maybe that is what I like. Why I like new adventure. For the next generations, and the generations next to them. So that I may share something. AH, that life changing experience. AH, that person has made be so irritated. AH, that person has made me too such stuff. Those experiences that made myself me.

Bagong ikaw, sabi nga ni B. Christina Bellen. Napakaganda.

Pen Keeper. Magtago lagi ng panulat.

Farewell to You

*A repost from: http://rookie93.multiply.com/journal/item/143

Farewell may not always mean goodbye. But rather, we only go out of our Comfort zones-with our friends- and go on with our own journey. We have met in one place and in that place, we leave. We were born on Earth alone and alone we shall depart from it. Though along the way we may meet persons, we must accept the fact that one day, we shall leave them and go to our Father. It may not be easy, but with strong faith that they will never forget us and that they have left a mark on our hearts, they shall not be truly gone.

For my batchmates, classmates, friends and Jasper Dulay, a fellow Bosconian.

We used to be frightened and scared to try
Of things we don't really understand why
We laugh for a moment and start to cry
We were crazy

Now that the end is already here
We reminisce 'bout old yells and cheers
Even if our last hurrahs were never clear

Farewell to you my friends
We'll see each other again
Don't cry 'cause it's not the end of everything
I may be miles away
But here is where my heart will stay
With you, my friends with you

Yesterday's a treasure, today is here
Tomorrows' on its way, the sky is clear
Thank you for the mem'ries of all the laughters and tears
And not to mention our doubts and our fears
The hypertension we gave to our peers
It's really funny to look back after all of these years

Farewell to you my friends
We'll see each other again
Don't cry 'cause it's not the end of everything
I may be miles away
But here is where my heart will stay
With you, my friends with you

Farewell to you my friends
We'll see each other again
Don't cry 'cause it's not the end of everything
I may be miles away
But here is where my heart will stay
With you, my friends with you
With you, my friends with only you

*repost. Halloween.

Happy Halloween!

Where did halloween start? Originally, I think it's from the western. So, I don't really like greeting people, "Happy Halloween." And it turns out, it is mostly observed in the western and can be traced back to the Druid in Europe.

I don't despise the western or anything but the western invasion in our country is what I despise. Because from there, I see people not wanting to go to back to the Philippines because all they see in the western news is the MILF, the corruption, the ugliness of the streets and the pollution. It's what I hear from my relatives who currently reside in America. They don't like to go back to the Philippines because of what they see; and what they experience there is much more comfortable and "hassle-free".

It's good to hear that there are still Filipinos who, due in time, would return to their mother land for good. There are also Filipinos who would say, "The Philippines is not that bad; what you see in the news is just one part." I cannot help but to just smile at him.

I have a tito and a tita who are residing in the west. They are a couple with no kids. My tita wants to stay in the west for good. On the other hand, my tito wants to go back to the Philippines after he has retired. This shows the different perspectives of the Filipinos outside the country.

I know the Philippines is, economically, failing. I cannot help but to think of going away and live another life outside the country; even just a few miles away like Singapore or Hong Kong. One friend said that even having a good leader, we cannot go back to the progressive country we were even after 50 years. 50 Years is a long way. We have no assurance of it.

One comparison did by one korean was to them. Years back, he said that Korea was very poor just like the Philippines right now; and the Philippines back then was very rich. He says that Korea envied the Philippines. What the Korea did was they sent so many workers outside the country in order to give back money back to their country. Not only the leader worked but also the citizens themselves. This foreigner was teaching us to love our country just like the way they loved theirs.

Now from what I notice, we lack this. Why do we say to something cheap and ugly, "local". Local meaning it is made here in the Philippines. And we call 'imported' the things that are good in quality. Meaning we brand the good things are only those made abroad. We look heads up to the people who buy imported products. A common notion to us is that when we have imported products, we are so-called cool.

But are we? Who would not love the dried mangoes of Cebu? Who would not love the slippers of Liliw? Who would not love the wooden furniture and decoration of Paete? Who would not love the durian, despite of its smell, from Davao? Who would not love the longganisa of Pampanga? Who would not love the Pansit Hab-hab, rice crackers and Lambanog of Quezon? Are we not cool if we buy these products? What can we do, Filipinos love to eat!

Who would not love the smiles of these kids?

Not only would you love Philippines because of its products but also its people. Who would not love the 'Magarbong' Pampangeno? Who would not love the hospitable Filipinos? Who would not love the happy and friendly Filipinos? Who would not love the heart-warming Filipinos? I know because I have been fed by the people I have only met minutes before. I know I have been taken care by the people I have only met minutes before.

So why not love the Philippines? We only get to take pride of our country when we get to represent them. But only a handful can. Do we have to wait for that chance? Look at other countries, they put flags outside their homes. Let us imitate the western patriotism to their country and not their country themselves.

Let us still value our tradition; our tradition to go to cemetery every 1st of November and not go 'trick-or-treat'.

The Philippines is so beautiful and majestic in our own senses(at least to me). It just depends on how we see it. I just wish that even years after, when I start living for myself, when I am not so idealistic like now, I do not become westernize that I forget that I am a Pilipino.

MMDA Translation of Powers

Source:http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/metro/view/20091210-241283/Study-ban-on-clearing-drive

MANILA, Philippines--Former Metropolitan MAnila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Bayani Fernando Thursday asked his successor to think twice before scrapping programs he had implemented at the agency, especially the campaign to clear sidewalks of obstructions, including ambulant vendors.

Earlier the agency’s new chair, retired judge Oscar Inocentes, announced a moratorium on the crackdown against sidewalk vendors “in the spirit of the season.”

Inocentes, however, said the drive would resume next month as he also warned vendors to stay on the sidewalk and keep off the streets to avoid causing traffic.

Fernando’s sidewalk clearing operations had incurred the ire of urban poor groups, who accused the MMDA of violating their rights. It even led to violent clashes between sidewalk vendors and MMDA personnel, resulting in several deaths on both sides and leaving scores others injured.

According to Fernando, the projects he had implemented during his nine years at the helm of the MMDA were the products of extensive study and observation.

Sacrifices

“I hope he [Inocentes] would study well [his decision] because what we started might be wasted like the sidewalk vending [drive]. You know, the MMDA has sacrificed a lot for that program. Six MMDA men died to resolve that problem. So I hope he would think twice about that matter,” he said at the Serye forum in Quezon City.

Fernando added that because of the agency’s clearing operations, pedestrians had become more aware that they, and not vendors, should occupy sidewalks.

He stressed that if the program was stopped, this might lead to the return to the streets of vendors and other obstructions.

At the same time, it could also make them bolder about violating the law, Fernando warned, adding that if you give these vendors an inch, they might grab a mile.

“If you allow them to operate during Christmas, every day would be Christmas. The song was right. [That campaign] needs to be sustained and backed with determination. A vendor would be reluctant at first to go on the road, but if he gets used to it, he would lose all shame and would start selling in the middle of the street. As he earns money, he would be more emboldened,” he said.

However, Fernando said he would harbor no ill feelings toward Inocentes should the latter decide to do away with his projects.

“I would not feel bad if he changes the programs I had. There are no permanent things, especially when it comes to traffic concerns,” he said.

Fernando recently left the MMDA to pursue his ambition to seek higher office. He is the running mate of Sen. Richard Gordon, who is aspiring for the presidency.

Sought for comment, the MMDA clarified that despite the moratorium, vendors would not be allowed to occupy sidewalks or roads that had not been designated as vending areas.

“There will be no demolition until the end of the month of all existing encroachment on the sidewalks but we will not allow new vendors to occupy any part of sidewalks or roadways that have been previously cleared of obstructions,” Inocentes told the Inquirer.

He said the agency would not permit vendors to convert streets for their personal use and add to the heavy volume of traffic this Christmas.

“They will be allowed to remain on the sidewalks but once they do business right on the streets where they will cause traffic, we will go after them. Our moratorium on demolition does not mean we will let them put up new structures in the sidewalk,” he added.

“If they encroach on the streets, that’s when we will remove them,” MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno also said.

“There’s no incongruency with the policy of former Chairman Fernando …” he added.

Mayroong Pagbabago *Fil 12 Paper*

May Pagbabago na Ba?

Million-dollar ideas strike at the middle of the night; so Keep a Pen.

Good night. I think it’s a good start a blog with a really nice greeting at a proper time. :D

What is the goal of this blog? Nothing. Just to keep everything intact, recorded, documented. Same reason why a year ago, I started a blog in Multiply (Which has an unpleasant interface): The faintest ink is better than the most retentive memory, Confucius said. It let’s me see how much have I developed, psychologically, mentally, physically ( through pictures), and of course, in terms of my writing skill. One has ignited me again to start this blog because of John Lemuel E. Paule. Lately, he has been posting blogs which are really meaningful. It reminded me of what blog can do to the writer and the reader through the blog. So, I would like to thanks him.

I come back to the blog-writing with a whole new perspective, a whole new stories to tell, and a whole new journeys to keep. With this fast-paced world, I can’t help but just to “Keep a Pen”.

This maybe useless but something useless does not also mean this is worthless. (Ms. Bong Oris) I hope you guys keep on reading and commenting the blogs I will be making in the near future. LET US EXCHANGE JOKES. LET US SHARE STORIES. LET US KEEP A PEN.

-Pen Keeper (signed)

*PS. I will try to import the blogs I made back then from multiply.

IM MOVING OUT OF WORDPRESS, GUYS! :)
